Description: This mural was created with the aim of being a high quality visual artwork with community involvement to reflect the African Caribbean culture of the Central Club and surrounding area. During the process of the murals’ design and creation, an apprenticeship scheme was established to offer the opportunity to work alongside Howard and receive training in planning, design and technical skills. The mural highlights the positivity of the African Caribbean culture in Reading and around the world with figures such as Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King, Bob Marley and Reading-based Central Club founders. The mural gained protected status in 2017 when the building was put up for sale and the future of the mural was uncertain.
